Literally chaos - 04092021

Pineapple Chaos - The game I made in 7 days for the Brackeys Game Jam 2021.2, which is about being a pineapple person, and trying to take over the world with pineapples on pizza. How did it go?

Well, it was more chaotic than I imagined. This was my second game jam, and I wanted to try doing my own art and stuff, and trying to challenge myself for once. The only things that I didn't do by myself were the built-in shape sprites and a few scripts for components like Cinemachine. Honestly, I did learn a lot from doing most things myself. But it also wasn't easy at all.

Not finishing your homework for the summer holidays is bad, but leaving homework until the last few days and joining a game jam near the end of the holidays? It was honestly quite chaotic and stressful, having to manage everything. Because I didn't really have much drawing experience and stuff, I struggled quite a lot with the art, and I remember I spent 2 days just trying to make the background look nice. There were also many other issues, such as the animations not working, the sprites being weird, and Unity just not working at one point. There were many moments during the jam that I thought of quitting and giving up. Obviously, I'm glad that I didn't give up and at least tried to finish the game, and also even though the game isn't what I wanted it to be, the comments from people playing it were surprisingly nice, even if they were exaggerating sometimes.

After the deadline though, I had to rush my homework and ultimately finished it during school. First I joined a jam right before an exam without studying, and now this.

Still, it worked out mostly fine. So...I guess the takeaway here is to not join jams without checking the dates properly. But also everyone should remember, it doesn't really matter if your game sucks, the important thing is that you should at least try to finish it, and that you enjoy it. Remember that there will always be people worse than you, but also there will be people that are better, so take note of what they did well, and try to improve upon your own game. That's the moral of this, I guess, I'm not great at writing these.

Anyways, thanks for reading (If anyone is even going to read this). And what an interesting and chaotic week it was!
